LOUISIANA SEAFOOD COOKOUT!

We are ecstatic to announce that we will be welcoming the amazing Decatur London to cook with us for two days in April.

Decatur started popping up in London a decade ago, after founder Tom returned home from living in the USA and began to wonder why there was a real lack of good Southern Cookin’ in the capital city.

After first visiting New Orleans touring with Punk bands in the late 2000’s, he spent countless trips returning to the American South and specifically Louisiana - exploring the breadth of incredible Cajun and Creole cooking and hospitality.

But in London the representation of this great cuisine was reduced to watery soups masquerading as Gumbos, tired cliches and dude-food.

Beginning life hawking Gumbo and Grilled Oysters on the streets of some of London’s coolest markets - Decatur quickly moved into sell out residencies and pop-ups at some of Londons best venues including Quality Wines, Oranj, Dina, Pamela, Soho House & many more. In 2020, chef Callum Alexander joined the business as Decatur navigated the pandemic by pivoting to nationally delivered Seafood Boils, winning acclaim and awards in the process.

Tom and Callum will be venturing up north on April 24th and will be visiting the fish market with us from which we will be developing a collaborative menu to be cooked up for your good selves on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th April 2024.

Throughout the day the Fish Shack menu will be running as normal with a few additions brought into the mix by the boys but in the evening we will be operating a set menu that will have been carefully crafted together with our own chefs from 6.30pm.

Weather permitting, the evening will be an informal social affair with shelter provided by our parasols and wind breaks with our round tables and fire pits.

Tables won't be 'assigned' to you as we want the atmosphere to be more laid back.

The set menu is £45 to include 4 dishes and a side.

Additional dishes available to order on the day will be a £9 supplement.

Expect...

Pecorino Garlic Butter Grilled Oysters with Crystal Hot Sauce

Louisiana Style Seafood Boil

New Orleans style Barbecue Shrimp

Seafood Filé Gumbo

and many more plus Cajun twists on Riley's classics...

You’ll have your deckchairs for the evening so bring a few spare layers and get ready to ‘bed in’ for an evening on Eddies Bay.

We will be monitoring the weather and will make a cancelation call a week before the event in the case of torrential downpours in which case we will reschedule.
For the drinks expect Louisiana style Cocktails by Angus Mason who will be mixing drinks with our very own Pete Bennet alongside Louisiana inspired Beers that will have been brewed by Two By Two and Flash House here in the North East.

We’ll be pulling together a suitable playlist for the day provided by Rob Heron Plays Records who'll be playing some records throughout the evening and we welcome an old friend all the way from Shropshire who is one of the countries finest Cajun and Zydeco musicians Mr Gavin Lewery.
