We are ecstatic to announce that we will be welcoming the amazing Decatur London to cook with us for two days in April.

Decatur started popping up in London a decade ago, after founder Tom returned home from living in the USA and began to wonder why there was a real lack of good Southern Cookin’ in the capital city.

After first visiting New Orleans touring with Punk bands in the late 2000’s, he spent countless trips returning to the American South and specifically Louisiana - exploring the breadth of incredible Cajun and Creole cooking and hospitality.

But in London the representation of this great cuisine was reduced to watery soups masquerading as Gumbos, tired cliches and dude-food.

Beginning life hawking Gumbo and Grilled Oysters on the streets of some of London’s coolest markets - Decatur quickly moved into sell out residencies and pop-ups at some of Londons best venues including Quality Wines, Oranj, Dina, Pamela, Soho House & many more. In 2020, chef Callum Alexander joined the business as Decatur navigated the pandemic by pivoting to nationally delivered Seafood Boils, winning acclaim and awards in the process.

Tom and Callum will be venturing up north on April 24th and will be visiting the fish market with us from which we will be developing a collaborative menu to be cooked up for your good selves on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th April 2024.

Throughout the day the Fish Shack menu will be running as normal with a few additions brought into the mix by the boys but in the evening we will be operating a set menu that will have been carefully crafted together with our own chefs from 6pm.

For the drinks expect Louisiana style Cocktails by Angus Mason who will be mixing drinks with our very own Pete Bennet alongside Louisiana inspired Beers that will have been brewed by Two By Two and Flash House here in the North East.

We’ll be pulling together a suitable playlist for the day provided by Rob Heron who'll also be playing some records throughout the evening and we welcome an old friend all the way from Shropshire who is one of the countries finest Cajun and Zydeko musicians Mr Gavin Lewery.

Weather permitting, the evening will be an informal social affair with shelter provided by our parasols and wind breaks with our round tables and fire pits. Tables won't be 'assigned' to you as we want the atmosphere to be more laid back.

The set menu is £45 to include 4 dishes and a side.

Additional dishes available to order on the day will be a £9 supplement.

FAQS

How will it work upon arrival?

The format will allow a manageable number of customers arriving every 15 minutes or so to our ‘welcome desk’ which will be situated on the North side of the Fish Shack by the ramp from where you will be taken to your table.

Firepits are an optional extra priced at £15.

If you are coming along as a family and you feel you don’t require deckchairs for the entire group ie. for the children. You are of course more than welcome to bring along some blankets.

How much will it cost?

When booking you will be asked for your credit card details which we keep in the system and charged £25 per head incase of a no-show. We hope you understand that we have a limited number of chairs and therefore charge if we lose the revenue from no-shows.

This Winter for our Inside Tables, we will charge a £25 deposit per person.

During our 2024 Spring and Summer season we ask for a charge of £25 per person to confirm booking reservations. This charge is taken off the final bill amount. Please note we operate a £25 minimum Spend per adult.

We will also be selling blankets to keep you warm or to sit on should you wish at a price of £8 each.

Fire pits are an optional extra at £15.00 and can be ordered on arrival.

We do not accept cash.

Allergies

Unfortunately we’re unable to accommodate guests with Fish / Shellfish allergies. Our menu items come into contact with Fish, Shellfish and may also contain traces of gluten and nuts.

Although we do take special care to protect you from consuming food that you may be allergic to, our kitchen is too small to adequately protect from cross-contamination, especially with Fish and Shellfish.

If you have any other allergies, please inform us by email bookings@rileysfishshack.com

Non-fish eaters

Subject to availability (like with all our dishes) we have steak/veggie/vegan options available. Please ask the front of house team when ordering.

What happens if it’s bad weather?

We offer a parasol and windbreaker on each table. We also have fire pits and blankets to order on the day as additional purchases.
We advise our guests check the weather forecast 48 hours prior to their booking. If the weather isn’t looking good as we hope, you will still have time to reschedule or cancel without affecting your deposit.

Can I turn up without making a booking?

Alongside bookings we will have a lighter takeaway menu available when the kitchen has capacity.

Can I bring my dog(s)?

Please be aware that dogs aren’t permitted on the beach (sand) from 1st May to 30th September every year however but you can sit with them on the balcony or inside.
